“The Forgotten Ones” is a new four song digital release by the Pacific Northwest based Shoebox Letters.
The songs feature two rockers, one haunting folk song, and a twangy nod to the Bakersfield sound. The songs were recorded in Portland, Oregon by Shoeboxer Greg Paul.
“The Forgotten Ones” kicks off with Dennis Winslow, Greg Paul and Susan Lowery’s “Looking For You” featuring Dennis on vocals, guitars and keyboards and Greg Paul on bass and drum programming. This sunny rocker is followed by an ode to Bakersfield “The Getaway” which features the full Shoebox Letters lineup, including Dave Stricker on bass, and Susan Lowery on harmony vocals.
The stripped down and haunting “Mean to Forget” features Dennis and Stephanie Cox on an intimate duet backed by Dennis on acoustic guitars and Dave on bass. This song dates back to 2016 and was somehow left off of earlier Shoebox releases.
Last, but not least, is the rebel rousing “Make Me Feel Better” written by Dennis and Greg and featuring Greg on guitars, bass, and drum programming, Dennis on the guitar solo, keyboards and lead vocal. Stephanie and Greg chip in with backing vocals. “Make Me Feel Better” definitely announces the start of the summer season with its feel good vibe.
